This is the story of Mike and Ally. Our friends lovingly refer to us as Mally. We’re a NJ couple planning a wedding for 2011. We’ve set the date for Saturday, April 16.
The location: Galapagos Art Space in Dumbo, Brooklyn, NY.
Our food will be provided by Crave Catering.
We won a contest to have Leigh Metzler as our photographer.
We wanted to keep our budget small, but it looks like it’s going to be costing us upwards of $25,000, the majority of which we’re paying for ourselves. (This might sound small to some, but it’s taking a whole lot of spendthriftiness and an extra part-time job to save for it!)
We’re looking to have roughly 100 guests.
What matters to us (aside from family and friends, of course):
- The food! We’re big foodies. Me + Dessert = Love.
- I’m also a vegetarian, however; so I’m hyper-aware of finding a caterer that won’t serve a plate of side dishes as the veggie option.
- The overall feel we’re going for is either rustic or urban/modern. Is urban rustic such a thing?
- The buzzword for this wedding? DIY! (Okay, that’s not a word; it’s an acronym…but you get the point.)
It’s going to be a casual affair — no gowns, no overly expensive flowers, homemade invitations, etc. We don’t need all the bells and whistles; as long as it shows our personality, we’ll be pleased.
This is a journal of our wedding journey.
